Lawrence Speck, FAIA

Lawrence Speck was a Design Principal for the architectural firm, Page, from 1999 to 2025. He is also a distinguished educator, having taught for decades at the University of Texas at Austin, where he was Dean of the School of Architecture 1992-2001. He has helped lead six major master planning projects for his home city, Austin, and has been lead architect for two major park projects in downtown Houston—Discovery Green and Buffalo Bayou Park. In additional to designing many urban commercial buildings, Speck has been lead designer for Austin Bergstrom International Airport Terminal (3 phases), Austin Convention Center (2 phases) and academic buildings on six university campuses. Speck’s work has been profiled in The Atlantic, The New York Times, and Wall Street Journal as well as in over 200 architectural publications in U.S., Italy, U.K., China, Germany, Japan, Turkey and Brazil. In the last 25 years, Speck’s design work has won over 120 design awards—30+ from the AIA. He has received over 40 teaching awards including the AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion.
