Designed by Kensaku Oshiro, the Sparkler collection of floor and table luminaires evokes the aesthetic of traditional rice paper Japanese lanterns. The weatherproof, solar-powered lights are made of a basalt-colored, powder-coated aluminum frame onto which a round polypropylene cord in taupe is hand woven. The LED light source is an 8-watt lithium battery that is rechargeable via a concealed USB. After the raw materials are crushed into a stone powder mixture, they are cold-pressed with cement binding into a compact surfacing with a low embodied energy. Frost-proof, slip-resistant, salt-resistant, and high-compression-resistant, the surfacing is suitable for exterior cladding and pavers, wet areas, and spaces with high commercial traffic.
