An excerpt from the October 1967 issue of The Texas Architect magazine, now Texas Architect. Many of the challenges facing Texas architects 55 years ago are still being grappled with today. That issue of the magazine also addressed parks and recreation. In an article on architectural needs of cities, it stated: “Our parks and recreational needs are not just the responsibility of the city or state government, they are just as much the responsibility of each and every one of us. The land developer who refuses to recognize these needs; the business man who doesn’t care and even the litterbug who abuses existing facilities — all need awakening.”
