About

Keith A. Simon, FAIA, is vice president of design phase services at Salas O’Brien and a lecturer at the UT School of Architecture. Keith travels all over the country presenting on the often overlooked but crucial details that determine how buildings perform, from stucco to window flashing. In addition to such technical subjects, he regularly speaks about the big picture issues plaguing the design world, urging the next generation of architects to rethink society’s design priorities and reimagine a built environment that better serves people and the planet. A lifelong volunteer, Keith has contributed globally and locally as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bolivia, a Crisis Corps volunteer in El Salvador, and a volunteer award winner from the Philadelphia Community Design Collaborative (CDC). He founded the Austin Building Enclosure Council (winner of the national “Best BEC” award), serves as Chair of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS) Building Enclosure Technology and Environment Council (BETEC), and sits on the board of the Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) Austin chapter. Keith’s commitment to sustainable design is deeply personal. Having visited all 88 Texas State Parks with his family, he draws inspiration from the landscapes he loves and channels that passion into advancing a more resilient, thoughtful, and sustainable future for the built environment.
