From September 15 – October 15, the U.S. celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the country. As the Texas Society of Architects, we especially want to celebrate architects who identify as Hispanic or Latinx in our state and the contributions they’ve made to Texas’ built environment.
Five Texas chapters have Latinos in Architecture (LiA) Committees, and many are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with events! See more about how you can get involved or participate in the events below.
COTE Tour: Latino Cultural Center

Earn 1 HSW/LU on this tour of Dallas’ Latino Cultural Center! The tour will explore how Master Plans can successfully maintain original intent while accommodating current and future user needs, and how thoughtful planning, design, and material selection can provide an appropriate response to changing climate and neighborhood influences.
The Latino Cultural Center is located east of Downtown Dallas and just north of Deep Ellum in a rapidly changing neighborhood of Old East Dallas. This vibrant cultural facility is the home for two local theater companies as well as numerous other small arts organizations. The existing LCC facility (designed by Legorreta Arquitectos of Mexico City) was recently expanded, with GFF as the Architect-of-Record in collaboration with Legorreta.
Latinos in Architecture: COLORES
AIA Houston
September 27–29
Join AIA Houston’s LiA Committee for COLORES, their fourth annual celebration of Hispanic culture, from September 27-29. The celebration features Carlos Jiménez, Principal, with Carlos Jiménez Studio; Yiselle Santos Rivera, AIA, Principal and Global Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion at HKS; Gerardo Rosales, multidisciplinary artist and Rocio Braggiato, former Principal Dancer at the Taller Coreográfico de la UNAM, Mexico City. Performances by LD Dance Company, guitarist Javier Gonzalez and a Mariachi quartet led by Julian Corona-Medina. The three-day event will conclude with a curator-led exhibition tour of Mexican artist Tania Candiani’s upcoming exhibition at the Blaffer Art Museum. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Architecture Center Houston Latinos in Architecture Scholarship Program.
NEXO Exhibition Opening
