This primarily subterranean winery blends seamlessly into the oak covered hills of historic York Mountain. This series of spaces, all housed under an expansive steel-framed roof, was designed to reflect traditional farming necessities with both simplicity and flexibility in mind. The 18,000 sq ft winery includes goods storage, a crush pad, open-air fermentation, a meeting room, administrative and employee space, and a winemaker’s laboratory. A ground-mounted photovoltaic array produces 95% of the complex’s power and integrated night cooling keeps energy usage to a minimum.
