It doesn’t happen often, certainly not often enough, but one of your colleagues—an AIA architect—is running for state office. Roman McAllen, AIA, Denton’s preservation officer is a candidate for the Texas Railroad Commission (TRC). Why, you may ask, is he doing that and why am I bringing it to your attention? To answer the first, remember back to the last legislative session when Denton had its hand slapped for attempting to regulate fracking, then visit his website at https://www.mcallenfortexas.com. While the Society has never been involved in a Railroad Commission race before, we have never before had a member run for one of the three commissioner posts. Admit it, wouldn’t you really rather elect an architect?
