AIA San Antonio, in partnership with the City of San Antonio and with help from H-E-B and the Gordon Hartman Family Foundation, has announced a design accessibility competition for City Hall.

The competition asks entrants to design an accessible solution for the east elevation of the building, balancing the standards of preservation with supporting equality of opportunity, full participation, and self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities.

Gordon Hartman, CEO of the Gordon Hartman Family Foundation, says, “We at The Gordon Hartman Family Foundation greatly appreciate being involved in this long-overdue endeavor that will ensure all San Antonians unfettered access to the seat of their city government.”

The competition is open to individuals or teams with expertise in architecture, accessibility, engineering, or historic preservation. At least one team member must reside in Texas, or be formally enrolled in a Texas school. Registration closes on April 3 and submissions must be received by June 30.

The winning entry will receive a $20,000 prize.
